The Hanger
Fullerton College's Career Closet

The career closet strives to serve Fullerton College students by providing clean and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories! Students can also find other products to help meet their basic needs such as toiletries and menstrual products. This service will help them on their journey toward finishing school and finding employment or internships. It will also help them at career fairs, networking events, and even school presentations. The less focus students have to pay to meeting these needs, the more focus they can place on pursuing their dreams and goals.

The closet operates on a point system for all students enrolled in classes. If your allotted point total is insufficient to meet your needs, please talk to us!

All items are FREE and meant for students to keep!

Donations

Although we are always accepting donations, we are most looking for sizes are harder to find- XS and smaller (especially masculine clothing) and/or XXL and larger.

Here are the many items that we will gladly accept!

  • Accessories (including jewelry, bags, watches, belts, hair accessories, etc.)
  • Socks, panty hose, bras, and unused underwear of various sizes
  • Unused or gently used hygiene products (including soap, hair products, unused menstrual products, unused dental care items, etc.)
  • Masks

Before donating: Please ensure that all items are in good condition, freshly laundered, and/or new and unused. To make a donation please email Jordan Lowery (they/them) at jlowery@fullcoll.edu or Rabia Khan (she/her) at rkhan@fullcoll.edu to set up a time to drop off your stuff. You can also email them if you have questions or to ask about donating something that is not on the list! Your contributions can be tax deductible so please request a tax letter at drop off.

Remember to stay tuned and check-in for when this list changes!

For those items that are not in good condition or that may not be usable by The Hanger (t-shirts with vulgar imagery or phrases for example) we are proud to announce that we are partnered up with USAgain to host a textile recycling bin on campus! Visit their website to find out more about this organization and the amazing work that they do around the world: https://usagain.com/. Also visit this page for a list of items they accept: https://usagain.com/items-we-accept

You can also make a donation by sending us something off of our Amazon Wish List.

How it works, Other Services, and Questions

The closet operates on a point-system. Each student who is enrolled in at least .5 units will have 6 points associated with their student ID number at the beginning of each semester. They can earn an additional 4 points through bringing in fellow eligible students to shop for a total of 10 points each semester! Each item in The Hanger is worth 1 point and are free for the students to keep! We only ask students not to take more than 2 items from the same category each semester. (Ex. no more than 2 jackets, 2 pairs of shoes, etc.)

We also now offer discrete measurement assistance and ordering for gender-affirming garments (i.e., binders and compression underwear- limit 1 per student) for our students who need them. Since these garments have to be ordered from an outside company, that does mean that there is a wait time between requesting and receiving the item. Simply reach out to jlowery@fullcoll.edu to schedule an appointment or submit a request.

On that note, we wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude toward the company offering us these garments at a discount so that we can obtain them for our students in need – Gender Bender Apparel LLC. Please visit their website to find out more about their company and the work that they are doing: https://genderbenderllc.com/

Some future services to look forward to:

  • Hair cut vouchers
  • Professional LinkedIn headshot photos

The Closet strives to provide a variety of services to students from a variety of backgrounds. If there is something you need that is not provided or if you have special circumstances, please reach out. There may be a way we can help or direct you to someone who can. Also, reach out if you have any additional questions.
